Track your 52-week savings challenge. Start small and save more each week — calculate your total savings and see the full weekly schedule.
Saving money can sometimes feel like a daunting task, especially when trying to set aside large chunks of cash at once. That is why the 52-Week Savings Challenge has become a favorite personal finance ritual for thousands of Kenyans. It takes the pressure off by turning consistency and small, weekly discipline into a rewarding year-long game.
Our 52-Week Savings Calculator is built to help you map out and track your own version of the challenge. Whether you are locking your cash away in an M-Shwari lock savings account, channeling it into a Money Market Fund (MMF), or stacking it up in a Sacco wallet, this tool shows you exactly how much to save each week and what you will have by the end.
How the Kenyan 52-Week Challenge Works
The traditional challenge adapts neatly to Kenya Shillings. Instead of arbitrary targets, savers pick a weekly increment — commonly KSh 50 or KSh 100 — and deposit that amount multiplied by the week number. So your deposit grows by the same increment every week.
If you choose the popular KSh 50 weekly increment, your schedule looks like this:
Week 1: Save KSh 50
Week 2: Save KSh 100
Week 3: Save KSh 150
...and it continues growing incrementally until Week 52, where you top up KSh 2,600.
Because the initial weeks require very little cash, you naturally ease into the habit without shocking your wallet. By the time you wrap up Week 52, those incremental deposits compound into a grand total of KSh 68,900.
Why Use This Calculator?
A rigid, one-size-fits-all spreadsheet rarely survives the realities of the year. Our calculator lets you set your own increment and week count, and switch between two tracking styles:
1. The Progressive Plan (Standard)
Start small with a baseline like KSh 25, KSh 50, or KSh 100 and let your deposit grow by that amount every week. This is the easiest way to build a savings habit from scratch, since the early weeks barely touch your budget and the bigger deposits only arrive once the habit has stuck.
2. The Reverse Challenge
Flip the script completely. Select "Reverse" and your heaviest deposit lands in Week 1 (KSh 2,600 on the 50-shilling tier), shrinking by the increment every week after that.
Why this works: It lets you clear the most demanding weeks early in the year while your motivation is at an all-time high, leaving you with small, stress-free deposits by December.
3. Any Custom Weekly Increment
You are not limited to the KSh 50 or KSh 100 presets. Enter any increment and any number of weeks up to 52, and the calculator instantly recalculates your total, your Week 1 deposit, and your final week's deposit. Try a few different increments to see which total lands closest to a savings goal you have in mind, such as school fees or business capital.
