Overview
calc.co.ke ("Calc", "we", "us") publishes free calculators and articles for a Kenyan audience. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the site, how it's used, and your rights over it. We collect as little as possible by design.
Calculator Inputs Stay on Your Device
Every calculator on Calc runs entirely in your browser using client-side code. The numbers you enter — salary, loan amount, meter units, dates, or anything else — are processed on your device and are never transmitted to, or stored on, our servers. We have no record of what you calculate.
Information We Collect
We collect two limited categories of information:
- Standard server logs. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) automatically logs technical request data — such as IP address, browser type, device type, and the page requested — for every visit, as most web infrastructure does. This is used for security, abuse prevention, and aggregate traffic statistics, not to identify individuals.
- Information you send us directly. If you email us, we receive whatever you include in that message (e.g. your email address and its contents), used only to respond to you.
Calc does not require account creation, does not ask for personal identifiers to use any calculator, and does not knowingly collect sensitive personal data.
Cookies & Local Storage
Calc stores your light/dark theme preference in your browser's local storage so the site remembers your choice on return visits. This stays on your device and is never sent to us. Calc does not currently set tracking or advertising cookies. If that changes — for example, if we add privacy-respecting analytics or advertising in the future — this policy will be updated first and any relevant consent banner will be shown where required.
Third-Party Services
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which processes standard connection data as part of delivering the site to you, under Cloudflare's own privacy practices. Calc articles and calculators may link to external official sources (e.g. KRA, NSSF, Kenya Power); once you follow an outbound link, that site's own privacy policy applies.
Data Retention
We don't hold calculator inputs at all, since they never reach us. Server logs are retained by our hosting provider only as long as needed for security and operational purposes. Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to handle your enquiry.
Your Rights
Under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019, you have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Because Calc collects very little personal data by design, most requests will simply confirm we hold none. To exercise these rights, use our Contact page. You may also lodge a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) Kenya.
Children's Privacy
Calc is a general-audience reference tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves — for example, if we introduce analytics or advertising. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the latest version. Continued use of Calc after a change means you accept the updated policy.
